Sweet potato skin cracking is mainly caused by the diseases known as empty blister disease and nematode disease. The following methods can be used for prevention and control:
1. Select resistant varieties.
2. Establish disease-free seed plots and cultivate disease-free strong seedlings. Soak seed potatoes in warm water at 50°C-54°C for 10 minutes to disinfect them.
3. Carry out soil disinfection. For each mu, use 1.5 kg of 80% dibromochloropropane mixed with 100-150 kg of water to make a medicinal solution, or use 2.5 kg of 70% ethylene dibromide mixed with 200-300 kg of water to make a medicinal solution. Apply the medicine in furrows 20 days before transplanting and immediately cover with soil and form ridges.
4. Practice crop rotation. Rotating with peanuts gives better results and can be done for one year. Rotation with corn, sesame, and others requires a longer period, preferably 2-3 years.
