The following methods can be used for propagating Astragalus by seed:
    1. Treat hard seeds. This point must be noted when cultivating Astragalus for the first time. For hard-seededness, it is necessary to grind with a roller until the seed coat is scratched without damaging the seed kernel; otherwise, seedling emergence will be seriously affected.
    2. Sowing can be done in spring, summer, and autumn, generally when the rainy season arrives from June to July. At this time, soil moisture is sufficient and the temperature is high. About 7 days after sowing, seedlings can emerge. High soil moisture is also conducive to preserving seedlings. Spring sowing lacks water, and seedlings often suffer from drought. Sowing near winter results in a low emergence rate.
    3. Sowing mainly uses hole sowing. Because hole sowing preserves moisture well, covers soil evenly, and allows moderate compaction, it is conducive to seed germination and seedling emergence. For hole sowing, holes are mostly opened at a spacing of 20-25 cm, with 3-10 seeds sown per hole, covered with 1.5 cm of soil and leveled by stepping on it. The sowing rate is 1 kg per mu.
    4. Seedling raising and transplanting. For seedling raising, broadcast sowing or drill sowing can be used. For drill sowing, the row spacing is 15-20 cm, and the seed rate is about 2 kg per mu. After Astragalus seedlings grow for 1 year, transplanting is carried out in late autumn or early spring. It is required to lift and transplant at the same time. When transplanting, open furrows at a row spacing of 40-50 cm, with a furrow depth of 10-15 cm, place the roots straight in the furrows, with a plant spacing of 15-20 cm, then cover with soil and water.
