What are the methods to increase corn yield? Practical yield-boosting tips

How to increase corn yield

Corn is one of the grain crops with a relatively large planting area in our country, and it is also a major cash crop in our country. Our country has a very long history of planting corn. But after such a long time of planting corn, there has always been one problem that all growers want to solve, and that is the yield of corn. Many times the yield of corn is often not high, and the economic benefits for farmers are not particularly good either. So how can the yield of corn be increased? Let's take a look below!

1. Soil fertilization

Veteran growers who plant corn all know that when planting corn, a second tilling treatment is generally carried out, with the purpose of turning out all the roots of the crops planted in the previous year. This prevents them from affecting the normal growth, development and germination of corn seeds when planting corn. When tilling the soil, pay attention to whether the soil lacks nutrients. If there are not sufficient nutrients, then appropriate farmyard manure needs to be added to the soil. It is best to use the manure of some poultry. Animal manure has the advantage of relatively good nutrients, because the digestive ability of poultry is not very strong, so after poultry eat, a large amount of the nutrients in the food is not digested and will still be excreted along with the manure.

2. Soil disinfection

Everyone also knows that corn is not suitable for continuous cropping, so before planting corn, attention should be paid to disinfecting the soil. This is because other crops from the previous season will inevitably breed some pathogens and parasites in the soil, such as sheath blight and cutworms. Many diseases are shared among crops. Everyone thinks that sheath blight is spread through insects in the field as a medium, but they are all wrong. The cause of sheath blight is mostly the residual pathogens in the soil invading corn. Cutworms are pests that everyone is very familiar with. They gnaw on the roots of corn and then cause the corn to die. So after tilling the land, everyone must use quicklime or potassium permanganate to carry out a comprehensive disinfection of the soil. Everyone needs to note that when disinfecting the soil, the rainy season must be avoided, because rain will wash away all the potassium permanganate and quicklime, so soil disinfection will not have much effect.

3. Seed selection

To achieve a high-yield effect in corn, whether the seeds are correctly selected has a very important impact on the survival rate. Everyone may often find during the planting process that the seeds have not yet sprouted or have just sprouted, and then they are already unable to grow and die. The fundamental reason for seedling death is that there are insect eggs inside the seeds, and seeds free of disease and insect eggs were not selected, or the seeds were not disinfected. This phenomenon can be compared with pea planting: once the seeds begin to sprout, the insect eggs inside will gradually wake up and then begin to harm the seed seedlings. So in order to reduce or avoid this situation, we must carry out a disinfection treatment on corn seeds. The seeds can be soaked in a potassium permanganate solution for about one day, which can effectively kill the insect eggs inside the seeds.

The three methods above are the basic methods for increasing corn yield. To increase corn yield, not only is a correct management method needed, but patience is also required. Whether corn has a high yield is determined at the time of seed selection. Perhaps the three methods compiled by the editor are only suitable for some growers, but after all, measures should be adapted to local conditions, and each place has different management methods.
