Quick sprouting techniques for bitter melon seeds

Bitter melon (Momordica charantia) is a warm-loving, heat-tolerant vegetable with an extremely wide growing region and area in China, able to adapt to many environments, and with its heat-clearing and summer-heat-relieving effects, it is extremely popular in summer. However, when sowing, because its outer skin is thick and hard and its water permeability is extremely poor, germination is relatively difficult, so timely sprouting techniques are needed to enable it to germinate smoothly. So do you know how to carry out sprouting? Come to Qinnongwang below to see the detailed introduction.

1. Sunning the seeds

Before starting sprouting, first treat the seeds: choose clear weather and place the bitter melon seeds under the sun to bake for a few hours; this can kill some of the bacteria carried on the seed coat, playing a disinfecting role, and can also increase the germination rate. However, note that it is not suitable to place them directly on cement ground to sun the seeds; it is best to lay down a layer of cloth, and when sunning the seeds they should be evenly scattered on the cloth, and the seeds should also be turned from time to time to avoid the high temperature directly killing the seeds.

2. Sprouting method one

Bitter melon has two common sprouting methods. First prepare warm water at about 50-55 degrees, then put the seeds in a gauze bag and begin washing them with clean water; when washing, gently wipe the seeds so that the substances on the outside that have poor water permeability are cleaned off. Then soak the seeds in the prepared warm water, keep them warm and soak for 8-10 minutes, then begin stirring; while stirring, continuously begin adding cool water to bring the water temperature down to about 30 degrees, then soak for 12 hours, and the seeds can be taken out. After taking them out, wrap them well with a wet gauze or towel, and place them in an environment at room temperature of about 30 degrees for sprouting. During sprouting, check every day, both to prevent water loss causing the seeds to become too dry and leading to sprouting failure, and to prevent too much water causing the seeds to rot. After the conditions and environment for its sprouting are met, about 2-3 days later, when the seeds begin to grow radicles, they can be sown.

3. Sprouting method two

This sprouting method is not as complicated as the first method. Also clean the seeds and soak them in warm water at about 50-55 degrees for about 10 minutes, let them cool naturally, and soak them in it for 12 hours. Take them out and wash them, use a tool or your teeth to slightly break open the hilum of the seeds; note that it should not be broken open too much, then place them in an environment at room temperature of about 30 degrees for sprouting, and after the seeds grow radicles, they can be sown.
