Detailed Explanation of Common Chinese Cabbage Pest and Disease Control Methods
Chinese cabbage is the most common vegetable on our dining tables. It is rich in nutrients, tender and refreshing, and can be prepared in a great many ways, making it deeply loved by people. Chinese cabbage is tender, and not only do we like it, many pests and diseases like it too. Below, QinNong Network brings you the common pests and diseases of Chinese cabbage and their control methods.

1. Chinese cabbage damping-off disease
Damping-off disease is common on various vegetables and harms them at the seedling stage. When the disease occurs, water-soaked lesions appear at the base of the seedling stem, gradually constrict into a thread as the condition develops, and then the seedling bends over and falls to the ground. If the soil moisture is high, white cotton-like growth also appears at the site of infection.
Control method: This disease mainly appears during the hot, rainy season in the south, and is also prone to occur in low-temperature, high-humidity environments during the seedling-raising period. Disinfect the seeds and soil before planting, and after the disease occurs, spray with propamocarb hydrochloride or metalaxyl + hymexazol for control.
2. Chinese cabbage black rot
Black rot can occur on both seedlings and mature plants of Chinese cabbage. When seedlings are affected, water-soaked lesions appear on the leaves, the roots turn black, and finally the plant withers and dies. When mature plants are affected, lesions appear on the leaves or the veins turn black, and as the lesions spread they become V-shaped yellow-brown necrotic spots, gradually spreading through the entire head; when it finally dries, it becomes brittle and easily cracks, and when humidity is high it rots.
Control method: The disease is prone to occur in hot, humid summer climates; continuous cropping and improper fertilization can also lead to the disease. Likewise, disinfect the soil and seeds before planting, fertilize scientifically and reasonably with a balanced mix of various nutrients, and when the disease occurs, spray with difenoconazole or thiodiazole-copper for control.
3. Chinese cabbage soft rot
Chinese cabbage soft rot can occur at the seedling stage, rosette stage and heading stage, and can affect different parts, such as the root crown, leaves and head. In the end, all of them cause the different parts to rot and die.
Control method: The disease is prone to occur during the rainy season, after excessive watering, and where leaves have cracks or wounds. When planting, avoid continuous cropping with solanaceous and cucurbit vegetables, and avoid plots with low-lying, heavy clay soil. Disinfect the soil and seeds before planting; after the disease occurs, promptly pull out the diseased plants together with their roots and carry them out of the field, then spray with benziothiazolinone or kasugamycin for control.
4. Pests
The main pests of Chinese cabbage are diamondback moths and aphids. They all chew the leaf mesophyll or suck the leaf sap, ultimately causing the leaves to dry up and curl, and in severe cases causing the death of the Chinese cabbage.
Control method: Regularly clear weeds to reduce the living environment for pests. Greenhouse technology can also be used to seal the area for 3-5 days, using high temperatures to kill the source of the pests. In addition, chemical agents can be used for control.
