Precautions for growing broccoli

Broccoli is a variety of cauliflower, but it is more nutritious than ordinary cauliflower, and it is deeply loved by women because it has weight-loss and beauty benefits. The key is that its taste is also very good, so it can be said to be a vegetable that combines beauty and benefits. In recent years, broccoli has gradually replaced ordinary cauliflower and become the mainstream in the market. So what should be noted when growing broccoli? Let Qinnong.com tell you below.

1. Soil

Broccoli actually does not have excessive requirements for soil. That is, it is best to have sandy soil with moderate acidity and alkalinity, relatively loose texture, strong permeability, and a well-built drainage system. Of course, deep soil with good drainage capacity can also be chosen. Of course, if the soil contains relatively sufficient organic matter and nutrients, that is best of all, but what should be noted is that it must not be excessively fertile, otherwise the broccoli florets will be relatively loose and the quality of the broccoli will be affected.

2. Light

Broccoli also has relatively strict requirements for light. First of all, the planting site must have direct sunlight, but it also needs shade. If there is none, then after planting, you can build structures yourself that can block light to a certain extent, but you must ensure that there are at least three or four hours of sunlight exposure during normal times. This is because it needs sufficient light to carry out photosynthesis better, so that the broccoli heads will be firmer and the quality better.

3. Water

According to the conditions for choosing its planting site, broccoli is very strict about water control. That is, the water in the field cannot be too much, but it also cannot lack water. The planting site must maintain a certain degree of moisture so that it can grow and develop normally. The best method is to water about once every week. It is best to water by root irrigation, because its growth depends on the roots. The better the roots grow, the better the quality of the broccoli. At the same time, if there is a period with relatively heavy rainfall, excess water should be drained in time, otherwise the roots are prone to rot.

4. Density

Every crop has the most suitable growth density for itself, and broccoli is no exception. Therefore, when planting, attention should be paid to the spacing of broccoli planting. Only with suitable spacing will the plants grow better, and only then will the broccoli yield be higher. Under normal circumstances, about 600 broccoli plants can be planted per mu, which means the spacing between rows is about 20 to 25 cm, and the distance between each plant is 15 to 20 cm. In this way, there will still be certain gaps in the field, with good ventilation, which also makes field management convenient.

5. Fertilization

The nutrients in the broccoli field should not be too much, because too much will affect the quality of the broccoli heads. Therefore, when fertilizing, we should pay attention to the amount. From planting broccoli to the first harvest, we generally need to apply fertilizer three times. The first time is after transplanting, the second time is during the growth period, and the third time is when heading begins. Then, because broccoli can be harvested in multiple rounds, after each harvest, one topdressing is needed. Each fertilization should be carried out in the form of compost, which is more conducive to absorption by the broccoli roots.
