A Detailed Guide to Cabbage Planting Time and Methods
Cabbage, also known as white cabbage or bao cai, gets its name because its leaves wrap tightly together. It has strong disease resistance and relatively high handling tolerance, and is one of the main vegetables in our country, with extremely high planting value. In addition, it also has certain medicinal value, with effects of nourishing bone marrow, moistening the internal organs, and clearing heat and relieving pain, and is deeply loved by consumers. Below, Qinong Net brings you its planting time and methods.

Planting Time
Cabbage has extremely strong adaptability and is both heat-tolerant and cold-tolerant, so it can be grown in open fields across the country in spring, summer, and autumn. In cold northern regions, it is sown and raised as seedlings in spring, planted in summer, and harvested in autumn. In warm southern regions, it can be grown mainly in two crops in spring and autumn, and can also be grown in multiple crops.
Planting Methods
1. Seed Treatment
To ensure the germination rate, the seeds are usually sun-dried for about 3 days before planting. After drying, soak the seeds in a diluted potassium permanganate solution for 4-5 hours, which can kill the pathogens carried by the seeds. After soaking, remove the seeds and wash them clean, wrap them in a wet towel, place them in a container to germinate, and keep the temperature between 20-25 degrees. Rinse them once a day with warm water, and after about three days germination will be successful.
2. Sowing and Raising Seedlings
Sow the germinated seeds in the seedbed, about 5-6 grams per seedbed. Before sowing, water the seedbed thoroughly once, and after the water has fully penetrated, cover it with a thin layer of soil. Then you can sow. The sowing must be even so that after emergence the seedlings are evenly spaced. After sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil about 0.5 cm, and after the seeds emerge and grow two or three true leaves and begin to head, they can be transplanted.
3. Transplanting Management
Choose cool and mild temperatures for transplanting, and the best row spacing and plant spacing is 40×36cm. Water once after transplanting to promote root growth. Cabbage has relatively high requirements for fertilizer and water. During the period from transplanting to heading, it needs frequent watering, but each watering should not be too much, which helps stabilize the seedlings. When the heart leaves begin to grow, water can be combined with cultivation, and the amount of water should be greater than the earlier seedling-stabilizing water; this is used for reviving the seedlings. The third watering is when the leaf heads have already finished growing, and the amount of water should be greater than the seedling-reviving water. In addition, when it enters the heading stage, fertilizer should be applied in time to supplement nutrients and promote growth.
The above is the cabbage planting time and methods brought to you by Qinong Net. Cabbage is not only loved by people, but many pests and diseases also like it, so pest and disease prevention and control measures should be well carried out during the planting process.
