Notes on planting Schisandra chinensis

Schisandra chinensis is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb whose fruit is mainly used as medicine. Ancient books record that Schisandra chinensis has the effect of exciting the brain nerves, and many stimulants contain components of Schisandra chinensis. At the same time, it can also treat everyday problems such as colds and coughs, and can also lower blood pressure to a certain extent. Market demand for Schisandra chinensis is very large, so someone needs to plant it. So what do we need to pay attention to when planting Schisandra chinensis? Let Qinnong Net tell you below.

1. Planting time

With Schisandra chinensis, you must pay attention to the planting time, because during its growth period the temperature cannot be too high, and at the same time the temperature cannot be too low, so we generally sow and raise seedlings in spring each year, that is, in March or April, and then transplant in early May to mid-May. Of course, there is another transplanting time at the end of September. These two times are very suitable for transplanting Schisandra chinensis, but sowing must be chosen in spring, otherwise Schisandra chinensis cannot grow normally. Even if seedling raising succeeds at other times, various diseases will appear.

2. Seed treatment

The seeds of Schisandra chinensis are rather unusual, which is to say they can only germinate in an environment with relatively low temperature and very little rain, but the temperature of the growing environment cannot be too low. So when sowing, we soak the seeds in cold water for two or three days, then put them into a basin containing a gibberellin solution and soak them for one day, finally take them out and rinse them repeatedly with clean water about three times, and finally mix them evenly with some wet river sand, wrap them with a wet towel and bury them in the soil. After about ten days, sprouting white will grow, and then sowing can be carried out.

3. Fertilizer and water management

Because Schisandra chinensis has relatively strict requirements for its growing environment, fertilizer and water management, especially water management, requires great attention. Schisandra chinensis is very afraid of drought during its growth period, so we must always keep the soil moist. Next, it is also very afraid of waterlogging. Once the rainy season comes, we must drain excess water from the field. So ordinarily, water is generally needed about once every five to seven days, but during the flowering and fruiting periods, Schisandra chinensis needs more water than usual, so it is generally watered once every three to four days. Schisandra chinensis grows relatively slowly, so it needs frequent fertilization, that is, frequent light fertilizer application. The period of the entire growth period when it needs the most nutrients is when leaves are growing, averaging 10 to 20 kg of farmyard manure and 5 to 10 g of phosphate fertilizer per mu. The second time is during the flowering period, requiring 15 kg of potassium fertilizer and 10 kg of phosphate fertilizer to promote fruit ripening.

4. Seedling stage management

Seedling stage management mainly requires attention to three aspects: trellising, pruning branches and leaves, and weeding. In the second year after transplanting, Schisandra chinensis seedlings will grow relatively quickly, so in order to maintain the most reasonable density, we generally set up a support beside each Schisandra chinensis plant, then lead it with a rope and let it climb along the rope to grow. As for pruning branches and leaves, this is actually also for field density and increasing yield, so we do it in spring and autumn each year, generally cutting off some old, weak, diseased and dead branches and leaves so that it can grow new branches. Finally, in order to maintain soil permeability, we regularly carry out intertillage and weeding.

5. Disease control

Schisandra chinensis generally has no diseases, at most leaf blight or a small amount of leaf roller insects. For leaf blight, we can usually prevent it by pruning branches and leaves. In the early stage of the disease, Bordeaux solution can be used for spraying, three to four times in succession. For leaf roller insects, we can only use trichlorfon solution or dimethoate emulsion solution for spraying, but we must pay attention that no pesticide can be sprayed half a month before fruit harvest.
