How to fertilize edamame? Master these precautions

Precautions for fertilizing edamame

Edamame is soybean; soybean is the scientific name, while edamame is the common name. Edamame is a warm-loving crop that fears waterlogging, and it is generally planted in the summer in the south. Growing edamame requires large amounts of nutrients to achieve high and abundant yields. So in daily management, attention should be paid to frequent fertilization to add nutrients, but there are also some issues to watch out for during fertilization. Let's take a look below.

1. Types of fertilizer

First, fertilization should be targeted according to the growth condition and trend of edamame, such as the most common foliar fertilizer. If edamame grows slowly, the plants are weak and small, and the leaves turn yellow, this is a sign that edamame is deficient in nitrogen, so when spraying foliar fertilizer, nitrogen fertilizer should be the main type. Conversely, if edamame grows normally, with tall and large plants and green, plump leaves, this indicates that the nitrogen content in the edamame plant is relatively sufficient. So at this time, when applying foliar fertilizer, more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied; it depends on the situation.

2. Fertilizer concentration

Not only edamame, but different plants, at different growth stages, in different places, also have different requirements for fertilizer concentration. If the fertilizer concentration is too high, it will not only fail to increase the growth rate of edamame, but will also burn the roots and leaves of edamame. When spraying foliar fertilizer at higher temperatures, the concentration must not be too high and should be around 60%. The concentration should be controlled within a range suitable for edamame. When edamame seedlings have just emerged, the concentration should be controlled below 50%, because the leaves of newly emerged seedlings are very tender, and too high a concentration will burn the leaves.

3. Timing of fertilizer spraying

The best time to spray fertilizer on edamame is during the growth stage when the leaves are plump and green and the plants are tall, as the effect of spraying fertilizer at this stage is the best. If spraying is done before the leaves of the edamame plants have fully matured, not only will the effect be insignificant, but the fertilizer sprayed out will also be wasted. Moreover, the fertilizer spraying time should be chosen in dry weather without rain, and it must be ensured that there is no water on the plants and leaves, because if there is water, it will reduce the fertilizer concentration and fail to achieve the expected effect. Spraying fertilizer in high-temperature weather will cause the fertilizer to evaporate quickly after being sprayed out.

4. Number of spray applications

Many friends spray fertilizer entirely based on their own mood and time; they spray when they have time, and spray whenever they feel like it. And many people think that the more fertilizer sprayed, the better, but this is actually not the case. For example, foliar fertilizer is generally sprayed once about every week, lasting for one month, because most foliar fertilizers contain some trace elements, and too many trace elements can cause trace element poisoning in edamame.

The above are some precautions for spraying fertilizer on edamame. In fact, these precautions are not only for edamame; most vegetables also apply. Even some crops that need large amounts of nutrients to grow normally will still have a limit; excess will not only fail to promote growth, but will also affect crop development.
