Detailed Explanation of Corn Fertilization Methods and Precautions
Corn accounts for a very large proportion of China's planting industry, and in recent years, through considerable scientific research and development, corn varieties and corn resistance have undergone great changes. There are many types of corn, with extremely strong resistance and increasingly strong adaptability to the environment, but fertilization is still a very important part of achieving high corn yields. Today, Qinnong Web brings you some practical tips on corn fertilization, hoping they will be useful to everyone.

Fertilization Methods
1. Base fertilizer
The base fertilizer for corn planting is the foundation of corn growth and development, so applying base fertilizer well is also preparing for later high yields. For base fertilizer, we generally use farmyard manure as the main component and chemical fertilizers as a supplement. On average, one mu requires 3,000 jin of decomposed farmyard manure, as well as about 50 to 100 jin each of phosphate fertilizer, compound fertilizer, potassium fertilizer, and urea. Spread them evenly over land that has been turned once, then re-level the land and work the fertilizer into the soil. This can maintain fertility, enhance the resistance of corn growth, and help corn adapt to the growing environment as quickly as possible.
2. Uniform seedling fertilizer
About ten days after corn is planted, seedlings will emerge. Because corn grows and develops at different rates in the soil, some grow relatively fast while others grow very slowly. To increase corn yield, we apply fertilizer once at this time. According to the different degrees of corn seedling growth, apply a little more fertilizer to the weaker seedlings and just a little to the stronger ones. This can promote the growth of weak seedlings, let them quickly catch up with the growth of the stronger ones, and ensure that corn seedlings in the field grow at a consistent rate. Uniform seedling fertilizer mainly uses urea, with an average of about 50 kg per mu.
3. Seedling-lifting fertilizer
In many places, due to climate reasons, if corn seedlings grow too tall, they may break, causing heavy losses. Therefore, corn seedlings do not need to grow too tall. When corn grows to 40 cm, we can apply a seedling-lifting fertilizer to the corn in the field. Seedling-lifting fertilizer is not simply meant to increase the growth rate of corn seedlings, but to help corn quickly complete growth and promote flowering, thereby improving corn growth efficiency. Seedling-lifting fertilizer is similar to uniform seedling fertilizer and is also mainly urea, but about 30 kg of compound fertilizer can be mixed in appropriately, which can enhance the resistance of corn seedlings to a certain extent.
4. Fruit-promoting fertilizer
Fruit-promoting fertilizer is generally applied after corn has eared and small corn cobs appear. At this time, we can spray some foliar fertilizer and a small amount of boron fertilizer and potassium fertilizer to ensure the survival of the corn cobs and promote their growth. In this way, the corn cobs grow faster, the corn kernels grow fuller, and it can also have a ripening effect.
Precautions
The main precautions for corn fertilization are applying fertilizer according to timing and according to the land. Under normal circumstances, fertilization can be carried out according to the time periods described above, but sometimes special situations also occur. For example, if corn seedlings grow too slowly, we can apply additional fertilizer; second, if the soil fertility is insufficient and relatively barren, additional fertilizer can be applied. Then, when fertilizing, note that the fertilizer must not be too close to the roots of the corn seedlings, otherwise the corn seedlings will be burned. Also, for chemical fertilizers such as urea and compound fertilizer, after broadcasting, we must cover them with soil, otherwise fertility will decrease. Finally, when spraying foliar fertilizer, do not spray too forcefully.
