How to prevent hollow radishes? These growing techniques you need to master
Hollow heart in radishes is closely related to poor soil drainage, uneven application of base fertilizer and top dressing, or top dressing applied too late, and leaf growth stopping too early. Through intensive cultivation, applying fertilizer evenly according to the fertilizer requirements of radishes and supplying water in a balanced way, the radish plants are encouraged to grow normally. The fleshy root forms under stable conditions, and hollow heart...
Radish is a vegetable grown for its fleshy root, and in production the fleshy root often develops hollow heart, cracking and similar problems. Hollow radishes directly affect the yield, quality and economic returns of the crop. To prevent hollow radishes and increase farmers' income, here are several methods for preventing hollow radishes, for reference.1. Balanced water supply
During the growth and development stages, radishes require soil moisture of 65%-80%. Especially during the fleshy root swelling stage, which is the period of greatest water demand in the radish's whole life, the soil must be kept constantly moist. Insufficient soil moisture supply, or alternation between dry and wet, very easily causes hollow radishes. Therefore, balanced water supply should be maintained during the fleshy root swelling stage; when soil moisture falls below 65%, water appropriately. But the amount of water must not be too large; after heavy rain, drain promptly to prevent root cracking or root rot.
2. Add boron and supplement potassium
Boron fertilizer can promote solid radish hearts and large size, while potassium can promote high quality and high yield in radishes. Supplement boron starting from when the radish grows 3-4 true leaves, generally until 20 days before harvest. When the fleshy root begins to swell, spray a 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution once every 10-15 days. This can effectively prevent hollow radishes, improve quality and increase yield.
3. Coordinate growth
Coordinating the balanced growth of the aboveground and belowground parts is the key to preventing hollow radishes and achieving high quality and high yield. In management, carry out balanced fertilization, strengthen intertillage and soil loosening, prevent excessive leaf growth, and prompt the plant to shift to fleshy root growth in good time.
