Dense-pod sesame Yizhi No. 1 is one of the higher-yielding types of sesame today, drought-tolerant, lodging-resistant, with very dense pod set, 3 to 7 capsules per leaf, layered thickly one upon another, so dense the stalks cannot be seen, seeds pure white, oil content above 55%, growth period 110 days for spring sowing and 85 to 90 days for summer sowing, yielding 100 kg to 150 kg of sesame per 667 sq m, with high yields...
Fertilization techniques for summer sesame. To achieve a relatively high yield of summer sesame, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers must be applied timely and skillfully. When fertilizing, care should be taken to master the principles of one steady, two accurate, three heavy.
One steady means fertilization at the seedling stage should be steady. Summer sesame grows slowly at the seedling stage, and the roots have a weak ability to absorb nutrients. If the base fertilizer is insufficient, the seedlings will be thin and weak, so a seedling-promoting fertilizer should be applied as early as possible, but the amount used should be small, otherwise leggy seedlings are easily caused.
Two accurate means topdressing at the budding stage should be accurate. From budding to early flowering, summer sesame's growth rate clearly accelerates; if topdressing is done in time at this point, it can promote flower bud differentiation and increase the number of capsules set.
Three heavy means topdressing at the flowering stage should be heavy. From full bloom to maturity, summer sesame flowers, sets capsules and matures all at the same time, and its demand for fertilizer increases sharply. Topdressing at this stage can not only reduce yellow-tipped shoots and shriveled grains in summer sesame, but also increase the thousand-grain weight. Generally, topdressing at the full bloom stage should be early and applied in two split doses: 10 days after early flowering, 2 to 3 kg of pure nitrogen should be topdressed per mu, and 10 days after capsule set, 3 to 5 kg of pure nitrogen should be topdressed per mu. To meet the large demand for phosphorus and potassium fertilizers at the full bloom stage, 2 kg of phosphate fertilizer and 1 kg of potassium fertilizer can be used per mu, mixed with 50 kg of water, and the clear liquid sprayed, with an obvious yield-increasing effect.
