How should mini pumpkin seeds be treated for planting? Please guide me on the method
Before sowing mini pumpkins, the seeds can be treated as follows:
① Chemical disinfection
Trisodium phosphate method: soak the pumpkin seeds in a 10% trisodium phosphate solution for 20 minutes, remove and wash them clean; this has a good control effect on pumpkin mosaic virus.
Bleaching powder disinfection method: soak the pumpkin seeds in a 2%-4% bleaching powder solution for 30 minutes, remove and wash them clean with fresh water; this can kill bacteria on the seed surface.
Carbendazim seed soaking: soak the pumpkin seeds in a 500-fold dilution of 50% wettable carbendazim powder for 1 hour, remove and rinse clean; this can control anthracnose.
Antibacterial agent 401 seed soaking: soak the seeds in a 500-fold dilution of 10% antibacterial agent 401 solution for 30 minutes; this can kill fusarium wilt bacteria, anthracnose bacteria, and other pathogens carried by the seeds.
Formaldehyde seed soaking: soak the seeds in a 15% formaldehyde solution for 1.5 hours, remove and rinse clean with water.
Seed dressing with medicinal powder: dress the seeds with 90% trichlorfon powder; direct sowing can prevent ants and underground pests from biting the seeds; a small amount of kerosene can also be used for seed dressing, which can also prevent field mice from biting the seeds.
② High-temperature scalding of seeds: add equal amounts of cold water and boiling water to two containers, with the water amount being 3 times the seed amount. First pour the selected seeds into the boiling water, stir quickly for 3-5 seconds, then immediately pour in the cold water from the other container, stir until the temperature is about 30°C, and soak the seeds at room temperature for 3-4 hours; this can kill pathogenic bacteria on the seed surface.
③ Warm water seed soaking: place the pumpkin seeds in warm water at 55°C, stir for 15 minutes, then let them cool naturally and soak for 4-6 hours; this can prevent pumpkin mosaic virus disease.
④ Strong-light sun exposure of seeds: in spring, choose a clear, sunny day, spread the seeds on a straw mat or paper, with a thickness not exceeding 1 cm, and expose them to the sun; turn them once every 2 hours so they receive light evenly. In addition to sterilising, sun exposure can also promote seed after-ripening, enhance seed vigour, and improve germination energy and germination rate. However, when sunning the seeds, do not place them directly on cement boards, iron plates, stones, or similar objects, so as not to affect the seed germination rate.
