How is corn northern leaf blight treated? Please explain.
Corn northern leaf blight has long been a major epidemic leaf disease threatening the safety of corn production in Shangluo. This disease often causes the most severe damage in summer-sown corn.
Occurrence characteristics: First, there are significant differences in disease resistance among corn varieties. Surveys have shown that varieties such as Zhengda 12, Yuyu 22, Nongda 3138, and Anyu 2166 are highly susceptible to northern leaf blight. Second, the same susceptible variety shows mild disease when spring-sown in the same year and place, but often shows severe disease when summer-sown. Third, in years with excessive rainfall and relatively low temperatures in August-September, this disease often causes large-scale moderately severe epidemics. Fourth, in years with relatively severe summer drought and excessive autumn rainfall, fields with poor soil are more severely affected.
Control techniques: First, select excellent varieties resistant to northern leaf blight, and prohibit the use of corn varieties highly susceptible to northern leaf blight, such as Zhengda 12, Yuyu 22, Nongda 3138, and Anyu 2166, as summer-sowing seed. Second, spray pesticides promptly at the early stage of the disease. You can use 50% carbendazim at 500 times dilution, 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 600 times dilution, or 70% mancozeb wettable powder at 500 times dilution for foliar spraying. Spray once about every 10 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays.
