Base fertilizer for pumpkins is mainly organic fertilizer, combined with a nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer. Commonly used base fertilizers include barnyard manure, compost or green manure, etc., applied in fairly large amounts, generally accounting for 1/3 to 1/2 of the total fertilizer application, with 3000 to 4000 kg of organic fertilizer applied per 667 sq m. All or most of the phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is used as base fertilizer and mixed with the organic fertilizer before being applied into the soil layer. When organic fertilizer is insufficient, apply an additional 15 to 20 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer per 667 sq m. There are two methods of applying base fertilizer: broadcasting and concentrated application. Broadcasting is generally done together with deep plowing; after evenly broadcasting the organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer, repeatedly harrow 2 times with a spiral plow so that the fertilizer is evenly mixed with the soil. When there is less fertilizer, a concentrated band application in furrows is generally used, placing the fertilizer within the sowing row.
