How should rice seedling stunting be prevented and controlled?
How can the quality of rice seeds be identified? Please guide. To identify the quality of rice seeds, you can refer to the following methods: Check the uniformity. Seeds mixed with other rice grains have irregular grain shapes and different degrees of grain plumpness. Check the glume color. The grain color of good seeds should be relatively consistent and the color relatively fresh...
How is rice seedling stunting prevented and controlled? Please guide.Causes of rice seedling stunting:
When the soil is deficient in zinc, rice shows varying degrees of stunted seedling without tillering. Rice seedling stunting caused by zinc deficiency mostly appears within 2-3 weeks after transplanting. It first shows the base of the young leaf losing green and turning white, and later irregular brown spots appear on both sides of the midrib of the middle and lower leaves, gradually expanding into reddish-brown stripes; in severe cases, the brown spots extend to the leaf sheath and stem. The pattern of lesion occurrence on the plant is generally from the lower leaves upward, appearing in sequence. Zinc-deficient rice plants emerge leaves slowly, the young leaf is short and narrow, the lower old leaves become brittle, droop downward, and break easily, the root system ages, and there are few new roots. Severely affected plants have a shortened or displaced leaf collar distance, are obviously dwarfed and clustered, rarely tiller, and grow unevenly in the field.
For rice fields that are obviously zinc-deficient or show a trend of zinc deficiency, supplemental application of zinc fertilizer can reduce seedling stunting. Zinc fertilizer can be applied as a basal application, root dipping, and foliar spraying. Before rice transplanting, apply 1-2 kg of zinc sulfate per mu as a basal application in the main field; when transplanting, dip the seedling roots in a 1% zinc oxide suspension; 3-5 days before transplanting and 5-7 days after transplanting, spray once each with a 0.1-0.2% zinc sulfate solution.
