The pod stage of rapeseed refers to the period from the start of flowering to maturity, including the flowering stage and the pod development stage. During the flowering stage there is only a small amount of vegetative growth, with reproductive growth being dominant. Proper field management during the flowering and pod-setting stage of rapeseed is the final key to achieving high yields. During the pod stage, attention should be paid to preventing nutrient deficiency or excessive nitrogen fertilizer in rapeseed, and by skillfully applying flower fertilizer and grain fertilizer, the number of empty pods can be reduced, shedding can be prevented, the pod-setting rate, seed number and grain weight can be increased, and the oil content can be raised. In addition, attention should be paid to drought resistance and waterlogging prevention, timely removal of old yellow leaves, and prevention of lodging.

The application of flower fertilizer should be determined according to conditions such as seedling vigor and soil fertility. For rapeseed that has achieved vigorous autumn growth, strong winter growth and steady spring growth, flower fertilizer can be applied at the early flowering stage on the basis that leaf and stem color has slightly faded, with 5-7.5 kg of urea per mu, or 10-15 kg of ammonium sulfate. For rapeseed with good spring growth, sufficient residual soil fertility, darker leaf color at the early flowering stage, or an excessively large population, the application of flower fertilizer should be strictly controlled. For fields where spring growth is insufficient, both the population and individual plants are very small, and growth vigor declines markedly during the flowering stage, flower fertilizer should be applied appropriately earlier.

From the full flowering stage to the final flowering stage, if rapeseed shows premature senescence, earlier ending of flowering, or light green leaf color, foliar spraying can be adopted before the final flowering stage to supplement nutrients in time. Generally, each time per mu use 0.3 jin of potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 0.5-1 kg of urea, dilute with 75 kg of water and spray the whole plant, spraying 2-3 times, which can prolong the functional period of the pod skin and green parts such as the bolt stem, thereby enhancing photosynthesis and meeting the need for plump seeds. However, for rapeseed with normal growth vigor and tight crop rotation, grain fertilizer is generally not suitable, so as to avoid excessive vegetative growth and delayed maturity.
