During the flowering and fruiting stage, greenhouse bell peppers often encounter cloudy, snowy, and low-temperature weather, which causes severe flower and fruit drop in the greenhouse and affects yield and income. Here are several methods to increase the fruit-setting rate of greenhouse bell peppers:
1. Improve light conditions and raise the temperature. When encountering cloudy, snowy, and low-temperature weather, supplemental grow lights can be added inside the greenhouse, and reflective film can be hung on the back wall at the same time to increase the light inside the greenhouse. Clean the greenhouse film to improve its light transmittance. Strengthen pruning and shoot-thinning management, remove excessive branches and leaves, and reduce nutrient consumption, thereby increasing the fruit-setting rate.
2. Reduce humidity inside the greenhouse and use insect pollination. During the flowering and pollination stage, bell peppers have relatively strict humidity requirements. When encountering low-temperature, continuous cloudy days, the humidity inside the greenhouse is too high, which easily leads to poor pollen development and reduced activity in bell peppers, making normal pollination impossible. Around noon, depending on the weather conditions, ventilation can be used to lower the temperature and remove moisture, reducing the humidity inside the greenhouse as much as possible.
3. Spray micronutrient fertilizers and plant regulators. Boron is one of the essential elements for flower bud differentiation in bell peppers. Boron deficiency often easily leads to poor flower bud development. Therefore, spraying boron-containing liquid fertilizer before flowering can supplement nutrients for the plants and reduce flower and fruit drop. Spraying a 30-40 mg/kg naphthaleneacetic acid solution can also play a very good role in preserving flowers and fruits.
