It mainly occurs in sesame-producing areas of Henan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui and other provinces. There are two types: common mosaic type and crinkled mosaic type. It is caused by single or mixed infection of Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) and a spherical virus (CMV). In epidemic years, it can cause 80% yield loss in sesame.
Symptoms/morphological characteristics:
The new leaves of diseased plants become smaller, wrinkled and distorted into deformities; some show mosaic patterns, some have leaf vein necrosis, and internodes are shortened with slight dwarfing.
Disease occurrence pattern:
Generally, it can be transmitted by sap or aphids, and fields with more aphids have more severe disease.
Control methods:
Remove weeds in the field; sow later at an appropriate time to avoid the peak migration period of aphids; control aphids.
