How should summer corn be fertilized? Please advise
Summer corn can be fertilized as follows:
Apply sufficient base fertilizer: the growth period of summer corn is relatively short, so according to the available fertilizer sources, apply as much decomposed organic fertilizer as possible, together with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.
Apply topdressing at the right time and in the right amount: corn needs a lot of nutrients, and base fertilizer alone cannot meet the demand, especially for summer and autumn sown corn, where base fertilizer is generally insufficient, making additional chemical fertilizer even more important. Corn topdressing is generally based mainly on quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer, with the topdressing amount per mu equivalent to about 30 kg of urea, and the topdressing distribution roughly as follows: 10% at the seedling stage, 20% as jointing fertilizer, 60% as ear fertilizer, and 10% as grain fertilizer.
1. Seedling fertilizer is applied after corn seedling thinning and setting, with 5 kg of urea per mu.
2. Jointing fertilizer is applied around the jointing stage of corn; according to seedling conditions, 5 kg of urea can be applied per mu.
3. Ear fertilizer is the most critical topdressing for high corn yield. It is generally applied about 10 days before tasseling, that is, at the large trumpet stage, with about 20 kg of urea per mu. Whether spring or summer corn, heavily applying ear fertilizer can achieve significant yield increases.
4. Grain fertilizer refers to fertilizer applied before and after corn pollination. Applying grain fertilizer can prolong the time of leaf photosynthesis, prevent premature aging of roots, stems and leaves, promote grain filling, and increase grain weight. Generally, 5 kg of urea is applied per mu, or 0.5 kg of urea plus 100-150 g of potassium dihydrogen phosphate dissolved in 50 kg of water can be sprayed.
Pay attention to applying zinc fertilizer: corn is sensitive to zinc deficiency, and the notable feature is "white seedling and variegated leaves", with tasseling and silking delayed by 2-8 days compared with normal, many empty ears, and missing grains and bald tips on the ear. For supplementary zinc fertilizer, generally use 1-1.5 kg of zinc sulfate per mu, mixed with organic fertilizer as base fertilizer; for corn seed dressing, use about 5 g of zinc sulfate per 0.5 kg, dissolve it in a small amount of water and spray it on the seeds; for foliar spraying, the zinc sulfate concentration is 1.5-2%, generally sprayed 2-3 times at the seedling stage.
