The yardlong bean pod borer, also called the yardlong bean moth, is one of the main pests of yardlong beans. The adult yardlong bean moths are scattered and concealed, fly over a wide range to lay eggs, and lay many eggs, so they are not easy to kill by spraying or trap. The adults lay eggs on the tender leaf parts of the plant, and after hatching in about 5--7 days the larvae bore into the pods and feed on the beans. Larvae over 3 instars bore into the pods, and spraying pesticides can hardly kill them. Therefore, to control this pest, fertilizer and water management should be strengthened so that emergence is uniform, growth is neat, and the flowering and pod-setting period is relatively concentrated, so that this pest can be eliminated in a concentrated way during the key period. Spraying should adhere to the principle of "mainly treating the buds", spraying to kill the larvae in the flower buds during the flowering period. The best time to spray is at 8--10 am on a sunny day when the buds are opening. After the flowers fade and the pods grow to more than 10 cm long, spraying once can kill the newly hatched larvae and the young larvae that have bored into the young pods. For the pesticide, you can choose Kung Fu 1500-fold solution, or abamectin 1500-fold solution spray, or Aruibao (4.5% emulsifiable concentrate) 1000--2000-fold solution; or Anleite (25% emulsifiable concentrate) 1500--2000-fold solution; or Ruining (2.5% emulsifiable concentrate) 2000-fold solution; or Nongsite (40% emulsifiable concentrate) 1500--2000-fold solution; or Sukai (44% emulsifiable concentrate) 2000--3000-fold solution.
