How do you grow tomatoes in summer? Here are the methods
In summer, you can grow tomatoes by referring to the following steps:
1. Variety selection For summer cultivation, choose disease-resistant tomato varieties with strong heat tolerance and resistance to aphids, such as Maofen 802, Sukang No. 5, L402, Jiafen 15, etc.
2. Grow strong seedlings Sow and raise seedlings in early to mid-May. Before sowing, soak the seeds in a 1% potassium permanganate solution for 15 minutes, then soak them in clean water for 3-4 hours, wash the seeds, and sow after drying off the moisture. Each mu of field requires about 10 sq m of seedbed; the seedbed should be 1.2-1.5 m wide. Spread an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer, then shallow hoe, rake fine and level, irrigate with running water, and sow after the water seeps down, then cover with 0.5 cm of soil. Cover the seeds with sifted fine garden soil, and mix 5-8 g of 50% carbendazim powder into the covering soil for each sq m of seedbed. After sowing, cover with straw mats to retain moisture, and set up arched sheds and shade nets to prevent rain and lower the temperature. After emergence, remove the straw mats, and cover with shade nets around noon on sunny days. Prick out seedlings at the 3-leaf stage; each mu of field requires about 40 sq m of pricking-out bed. Transplant at the 6-leaf stage, with a seedling age of 40-50 days.
3. Planting on high ridges with double-layer film and net covering Apply 4000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure, 50 kg of decomposed cake fertilizer, and 50 kg of compound fertilizer per mu of field.
After land preparation, make saddle-shaped high ridges 80 cm wide, with furrow width 30 cm. Plant at a large row spacing of 70 cm and a small row spacing of 40 cm, with plant spacing of 25-30 cm, planting about 4500 plants per mu. Water thoroughly at planting, and after planting cover the large rows with fresh wheat seedlings. Then set up a large shed frame and cover it with 0.06 mm thick film as a rainproof film, covering both sides down to 40-50 cm above the ground to facilitate ventilation. Cover with a shade net around noon on sunny days to lower the temperature.
4. Strengthen field management After the seedlings recover, water once. Use single-stem pruning; when basal branches grow to about 10 cm, remove them to promote root development, and remove later branches as early as possible. Insert supports and tie vines in time. Summer temperatures are high, making fruit set difficult; when flowers are half-open, apply Tomatotone to the flowers to promote fruit set. Keep 3 trusses of fruit per plant and 3-4 fruits per truss, and pinch off the top above the third truss, leaving 2-3 leaves. When each truss of fruit begins to swell, apply 10-15 kg of urea and 2-3 kg of monopotassium phosphate per mu along with watering. Generally water once every 8-10 days. Promptly remove old and diseased lower leaves. In the middle and late stages, spray 0.3%-0.5% monopotassium phosphate solution or foliar fertilizers such as Feilibao 3-4 times to prevent premature aging.
5. Prevent and control pests and diseases If aphid damage is found, spray 24.5% Abamectin EC at 1500-2000 times dilution or imidacloprid at 1000 times dilution per mu. In the middle and late stages, spray 75% chlorothalonil at 600 times dilution or 70% mancozeb at 500 times dilution once every 10-15 days to prevent disease. The main diseases include late blight, leaf mold, and gray mold; spray 47% Kasugamycin-plus-copper at 600 times dilution, 50% thiophanate-methyl at 500 times dilution, and 50% procymidone at 1500 times dilution respectively for control, once every 7-10 days, for 3-4 consecutive applications.
