How to apply top dressing to over-summer eggplants? Here is an introduction

For over-summer eggplants, you can refer to the following methods for top dressing:
1. Proper amount.
Eggplants have the highest demand for nitrogen fertilizer, but in the high-temperature season, they should be fed small amounts more frequently. Each application of urea per 667 sq m should generally be kept within 30 kg. Because in the high-temperature season, urea transforms relatively quickly after being applied to the soil, and after the plants have met their needs, the excess portion will be lost. This is especially true for sandy soil, where the proportion lost will be even greater. For ammonium bicarbonate, each application per 667 sq m is more suitable at no more than 40 kg. If the application amount is too large, besides causing nutrient loss, it will also cause ammonia damage to eggplant leaves and fruits.

2. Proper method.
For vegetable growers, applying chemical fertilizer with irrigation water has become a habit, but this method is not suitable in the high-temperature summer season. Because the temperature is relatively high, when chemical fertilizer is applied with irrigation water, a large amount of ammonia volatilizing will reduce fertilizer efficiency. This is especially true for ammonium bicarbonate, which is more likely to cause ammonia poisoning in eggplants. Applying it in furrows or holes gives the best results. After top dressing, the soil covering thickness should be no less than 5 cm to reduce the volatilization of the effective components of the chemical fertilizer.

3. Reasonable combination.
Although eggplants have the greatest demand for nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are also indispensable. When applying top dressing, nitrogen chemical fertilizer should not be applied every time. During the peak fruiting period, it is best to apply a ternary compound fertilizer 2 times, with a total of no less than 40 kg per mu for the 2 applications, to meet the needs of eggplant growth and fruiting.
