The main points for cultivating honeysuckle:
    1. Cutting propagation  Cuttings are generally taken during the rainy season. In cloudy and rainy weather in summer and autumn, select healthy 1- to 2-year-old branches free of pests and diseases, cut them into 30-35 cm lengths, remove the lower leaves to make cuttings, and use them immediately after cutting. On the selected land, dig holes at a row spacing of 165 cm and a plant spacing of 150 cm, with a hole depth of 16-18 cm. Insert 5-6 cuttings per hole, place the cuttings separately at a slant inside the soil, leaving 7-10 cm exposed, and after planting fill the soil and press it firm. Water after planting to improve the survival rate. In order to save honeysuckle branches and make management easier, seedling cuttings are often used.
    2. Field management  (1) Loosening the soil, weeding, earthing up, and fertilizing. After honeysuckle is planted, first loosen the soil and weed so that there are no weeds around the flower mounds, which helps growth. After autumn and before the ground freezes, loosen the soil and earth up. Fertilize 1-2 times each year, at the same time as earthing up. Fertilization method: dig a shallow trench around the flower mound, spread the fertilizer into the trench, and cover it firmly with soil. Farmyard manure and chemical fertilizer can be mixed and applied; the amount of fertilizer can be determined according to the size of the flower mound. (2) Shaping and pruning. For old flower mounds with long branches, prune heavily, cut back long branches, thin out short branches, and place equal emphasis on cutting back and thinning; for vigorous flower mounds, mainly prune lightly, thin little, and leave more; for young flower mounds, mainly cut back to promote branching and accelerate the expansion of the mound crown. Pruning time is after each flower harvest. During the growing season, pruning should mainly be light pruning.
