For growing cilantro in summer, you can refer to the following growing methods:
         1. Land preparation and fertilization. For cilantro plots, choose fertile, loose sandy loam with good water retention and drainage and close to a water source. Before sowing, first combine with turning the soil, and apply 3000-3500 kg of high-quality decomposed manure per mu as a base fertilizer, then build beds 2 m wide. In dry weather, water thoroughly in advance to provide bottom moisture, then rake fine and level before sowing.
II. Select good seed. Usually choose varieties with fast growth, heat tolerance, late bolting, good quality, strong aroma, few pests and diseases, and strong adaptability, such as Beijing cilantro and Huabei Daye.
III. Soaking seeds to promote germination. Before sowing, soak the cilantro seeds to promote germination so as to ensure uniform and fast emergence. First rub the seeds apart so that the two seeds inside each fruit separate. Then soak them in clean water for 4-5 hours, put them in a cloth bag and place at room temperature for moisture-retaining germination, moistening with water once every 2-3 days. Generally after about 10 days, when the young roots show white, they can be taken out and sown.
IV. Direct sowing at the right time. Cilantro prefers cool conditions, and the suitable growing temperature is 17-20°C. The sowing period for growing cilantro in summer is not strict. For open-field direct sowing in summer in southern Shandong, the suitable sowing period is usually from late April to early June, generally sowing one batch every 5-7 days. Harvest 40-50 days after sowing.
V. Fine sowing. For growing cilantro in summer, uniform broadcasting is best, generally using about 2 kg of cilantro seed per mu. The broadcasting method is "sow two beds first, leave one bed". Take the covering soil reserved for the first-sown beds and place it on the surfaces of the remaining beds on both sides, then irrigate thoroughly, and after the water infiltrates, sow evenly, cover with 2 cm of soil after sowing, then sow the remaining empty beds in the same way as the first sowing. After sowing, rake shallowly and pat firm, cover with grass to retain moisture and help seedlings emerge. When most of the seedlings have emerged, remove the covering. Generally seedlings emerge about 7-10 days after sowing. After all sowing is completed, press once to preserve soil moisture. If the weather is dry and soil moisture is low, which will affect emergence, a light watering can be given once.
