In the early growth stage, radish absorbs nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium slowly, and the rate increases as it grows; by the peak stage of fleshy root growth, the uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is at its highest. Radish varies greatly in its absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium across different growth stages. Generally, nitrogen uptake is relatively high at the seedling stage, while phosphorus and potassium uptake is relatively low. Entering the early stage of fleshy root expansion, the plant's potassium uptake increases significantly, followed by nitrogen and phosphorus. By the peak stage of fleshy root expansion, nutrient uptake reaches its peak, so ensuring adequate nutrition during this period is the key to a high-yielding radish crop.
Fertilization methods: At a medium fertility level, the total fertilizer application for radish across the whole growing season is 3000-3500 kg of farmyard manure per mu (or 350-400 kg of commercial organic fertilizer), 14-16 kg of nitrogen fertilizer, 6-8 kg of phosphorus fertilizer and 9-11 kg of potassium fertilizer. Nitrogen and potassium fertilizers are split into a basal application and two topdressings, while all phosphorus fertilizer is applied as a basal fertilizer. Chemical fertilizers and farmyard manure (or commercial organic fertilizer) are applied together. Basal fertilizer: apply 3000-3500 kg of farmyard manure or 350-400 kg of commercial organic fertilizer per mu, plus 5-6 kg of urea, 13-17 kg of diammonium phosphate and 5-7 kg of potassium sulfate. Topdressing: at the early stage of fleshy root expansion, apply 11-13 kg of urea and 8-9 kg of potassium sulfate per mu; at the mid stage of fleshy root expansion, apply 9-10 kg of urea and 5-6 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. Foliar topdressing: in the mid to late growth stage, spray the leaves 2-3 times with 0.3% calcium nitrate and 0.2% boric acid to prevent calcium and boron deficiency. At the same time, foliar spraying with 0.2% monopotassium phosphate can improve yield and quality.
