The pathogen of purple root rot of Astragalus membranaceus is a kind of basidiomycete fungus, which mainly damages the underground roots. It first occurs on the underground fibrous roots, then spreads to the lateral roots and the main root. In the early stage of the disease, a layer of white thread-like material can be seen wrapped around the roots; as the disease develops, it turns purplish brown and interweaves with each other to form a layer of fungal film and sclerotia. The roots gradually rot from the outside inward, and the aboveground stems and leaves wilt and yellow from the bottom upward, until finally the whole plant rots and dies.

    Control measures:

    1. At harvest, promptly remove diseased residual tissues and burn or deep-bury them in a centralized manner.

    2. Rotate with gramineous crops for 3 to 4 years before planting again.

    3. When diseased plants are found, promptly remove them from the field together with roots and soil to prevent sclerotia and rhizomorphs from falling into the soil, and irrigate the diseased holes with 5% lime water for disinfection.

    4. Apply 20 to 25 kg of calcium cyanamide per mu as a base fertilizer, and sow again after 2 weeks.

    5. Use 1.5 kg of 70% dexon powder per mu, mix it with 25 kg of fine soil, and broadcast it to disinfect the soil.
