What is lettuce soft rot? What harm does soft rot do to lettuce? How do you prevent and control lettuce soft rot? We also ask knowledgeable readers to help explain.Harm soft rot does to lettuce:
The disease mostly infects from the petiole or base of the root crown, initially appearing as water-soaked yellowish-brown soft rot with a foul odor. Sometimes soft rot begins at the edges of the outer leaves or the top of the head, and in severe cases the root pith and the head rot.
The pathogen spreads through watering or insects, invading through wounds and cracks in the plant. The optimal temperature for the disease to occur is 25°C~30°C.
Prevention and control methods for lettuce soft rot:
Prevent heavy flooding irrigation and water accumulation in the beds, pay attention to ventilation and dehumidification, promptly remove diseased plants, and control watering appropriately.
In the early stage of the disease, spray 72% xinzhiromycin wettable powder or agricultural streptomycin sulfate wettable powder at 4000~5000 times dilution, or 50% DT wettable powder at 500 times dilution, or 47% jiaruinong wettable powder at 800 times dilution, or 77% keshaide soluble micro-powder at 500 times dilution. Generally spray once every 7~10 days, for 2~3 consecutive sprays.
