Yellowing, lusterless corn leaves are caused by a deficiency of nitrogen in the corn plant and in the soil, or by damage from pests and diseases. Long-term yellowing of corn leaves often causes reproductive growth to advance, with tasseling too early, resulting in bald tips, and the corn plants becoming "old before their time," that is, the corn plants age and mature prematurely, with low yields. The measures for controlling yellow leaves in corn are as follows:
Heavy application of fertilizer and water. For corn with yellow leaves, adopt the "five-stage topdressing method," that is, seedling fertilizer, small funnel-stage fertilizer, large funnel-stage fertilizer, ear fertilizer and grain fertilizer, applying fertilizer in small amounts many times to improve fertilizer efficiency. At the seedling stage, apply 10 kg of urea and 5 kg of potassium sulfate per mu; at the small funnel stage, apply 15 kg of diammonium phosphate, 10 kg of potassium sulfate and 2 kg of complete trace-element fertilizer per mu; at the large funnel stage, apply 25 kg of diammonium phosphate, 15 kg of potassium sulfate and 3 kg of complete trace-element fertilizer per mu; at the ear stage, apply 10 kg of diammonium phosphate and 5 kg of potassium sulfate per mu; at the grain stage, apply 2 kg of diammonium phosphate and 3 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. If it does not rain after fertilizing, water must be given 3-5 days after fertilizing, to regulate fertilizer with water and promote fertilizer with water.
Prevent diseases early and skillfully control insects. Based on the characteristics of the occurrence of the diseases and insects that cause yellow leaves, apply pesticide early, so that the pesticide takes effect and the disease (insect) is eliminated, leaving no future trouble.
