1. Habits  A perennial herbaceous plant, 15-30 cm tall. The tuber is spherical or flattened spherical, with a spadix. Male flowers grow on the upper part and female flowers on the lower part; it is monoecious. The flowering period is May-July, and the fruiting period is June-September. Pinellia ternata likes moisture, fears drought, and is afraid of strong light. Under conditions of direct sunlight or insufficient water, it is prone to seedling collapse. It is shade-tolerant and cold-tolerant, and the tubers can overwinter naturally. It requires moist, fertile, and deep soil, preferably sandy loam with a water content of 40%-50% and a neutral pH of 6-8. Too sticky, too sandy, and easily waterlogged land is not suitable for planting. Pinellia emerges and collapses three times each year: the first time from early April to early June, the second time from June to mid-August, and the third time from August to October. After each emergence, the growth period is 50-60 days.

2. Planting  It is mainly propagated by tubers and bulbils, and can also be propagated by seeds. It is generally planted in autumn and winter, or in mid-February.

3. Harvesting and processing  Those propagated by tubers are harvested in the same year or the second year, generally dug after the stems and leaves wither and the seedlings collapse in summer and autumn. However, harvesting between Grain in Ear and Summer Solstice in summer is preferable. The general yield per mu is 500-750 kg of fresh tubers. The drying rate is 30%.
