How do you manage cilantro after the Start of Autumn? What should you pay attention to? We ask fellow gardeners for guidance.Generally, after the Start of Autumn, open-field cilantro enters its peak season. Zhongdiwang has compiled the points to note for cilantro after the Start of Autumn, listed below for fellow gardeners' reference.
Note 1: Prevent cilantro bolting:
Although open-field cilantro grown in summer and autumn will not bolt because seedlings are affected by low temperatures, it will bolt due to the long daylight (conditions) of summer and autumn, which requires selecting cilantro varieties that are resistant to bolting.
In addition, strengthen fertilizer and water management (throughout the whole growth period of cilantro, it is best to water lightly and spray Shucai Zhuangjingling 5 to 7 times; for the first three waterings, water and spray Shucai Zhuangjingling once about every 10 days, and from the fourth watering on, water and spray Shucai Zhuangjingling once every 6 to 7 days. At the first watering, lightly apply a seedling-promoting fertilizer, about 10 kg of urea per mu, and afterward apply urea once after every 2 to 3 waterings, 10 to 12.5 kg per mu), and spray Xingao Zhimo at 800 times dilution once, which can reduce the occurrence of bolting.
Note 2: Prevent cilantro "red stems":
Cilantro "red stems" means the stems and leaves of cilantro turn from green to red, reducing its commercial value, with the purchase price halved. In open-field cilantro grown in summer and autumn, the stems and leaves turn red under strong light, especially when thinning is done too late (plant height over 8 cm).
To prevent cilantro from developing "red stems," first, thin early, and spray Xingao Zhimo once after each thinning; in production, thinning when seedlings grow to 3 cm tall is appropriate, and keep the plant spacing after thinning at about 2 cm; second, cover with a shade net. Farmers with the means can, after sowing, build a frame 80 to 100 cm high and cover it with a layer of shade net.
Note 3: Prevent rain:
In summer and autumn, there is more rain, which is very harmful to cilantro seedlings not long after they emerge. After heavy rain, if it suddenly clears, it very easily causes cilantro heart rot. After the rain, lightly water once with well water, in an amount that does not submerge the seedlings, and spray Xingao Zhimo once, which can prevent cilantro heart rot.
Note 4:During these three prevention measures, timely use of Shucai Zhuangjingling and Xingao Zhimo can make plant stems thick and strong, leaves thick and plump, leaf color fresh and tender, and plants lush, with a strong natural taste. At the same time, it can improve disaster resistance, reduce the amount of pesticide and chemical fertilizer used, and lower residual toxicity.
