What is the bean leafminer? What damage does the leafminer do to beans? What are some good control methods? We asked fellow gardeners for helpZhongdiwang has compiled the damage caused by the bean leafminer and its control methods, listed below for fellow gardeners' reference.
Damage caused by the leafminer to beans:
The leafminer mainly uses its larvae to bore into and feed on the leaf sap and mesophyll between the upper and lower epidermis of plant leaves, forming nearly round pitted yellow spots on the leaves. After the larvae feed on the mesophyll within the leaves, they create tunnels. The tunnels are winding and meandering, with no fixed direction, forming patterned grayish-white streaks. This damages vegetables such as beans, eggplant, and luffa, seriously affecting their normal growth and development.
Control methods for the bean leafminer: mainly divided into agricultural control methods and chemical control methods
Agricultural control methods:
After the previous crop is harvested, plow deeply in time to reduce the pest population and lessen the damage. Taking advantage of the leafminer's phototaxis, blacklight lamps can be used to trap and kill adults. Mix machine oil and butter and coat it on yellow boards, then insert them in the field to stick flying adults. Insert 20-30 yellow boards per mu.
Chemical control methods:
The best results come from early control during the key period from the peak egg-laying stage to the early hatching stage of the leafminer.
Choose 48% Lorsban emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution, 20% Qianyingbao emulsifiable concentrate at 3000 times dilution, 2.5% Kung Fu emulsifiable concentrate at 2000-3000 times dilution, 1.8% abamectin emulsifiable concentrate at 3000 times dilution, 75% Qianke at 5000 times dilution, 5% fipronil suspension concentrate at 1000 times dilution.
Given the larvae's habit of feeding on sap and mesophyll, you can add 500 times dilution of anti-resistance liquid (Hailiping, Xiaochongwang) to the spray solution, or add an appropriate amount of baijiu to improve efficacy. To prevent resistance, the above pesticides should be used alternately.
