Generally, late July to early September each year is the sweet potato storage root bulking stage. This period is critical for yield formation and is also the time of greatest fertilizer demand. Zhongdi.com has compiled several topdressing methods for the sweet potato bulking stage, listed below for fellow gardeners' reference.

  Method 1: Hole topdressing method:
At a distance of 20-30 cm from the main sweet potato root, make a hole about 30 cm deep, apply an appropriate amount of NPK compound fertilizer, and seal it with moist soil. If one hole is made on each side of the ridge for topdressing, the effect is even better. Using this method can increase yield by about 20% per mu.

  Method 2: Crack topdressing method:
When the sweet potatoes bulge and cracks appear in the ground, use 0.5 kg of potassium dihydrogen phosphate per mu mixed with 400 kg of water, or 2.5 kg of urea and 10 kg of superphosphate mixed with 500 kg of water, to prepare a fertilizer solution and pour it into the cracks, applying 0.7-1 kg per plant. After 15 days, use 100 kg of plant ash per mu plus 500 kg of water, soak for 4 hours, take the supernatant and pour it into the cracks, then seal the cracks tightly with soil after pouring.

  Method 3: Foliar topdressing method:
Spray a 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution on the leaves, once every 7 days. Using this method can increase yield by 18%-20% per mu.
