Sweet potato is a high-fiber vegetable, which is very beneficial to the human digestive system, and it is also very popular with consumers during the sweet potato season. So how are sweet potatoes grown? Would you like to know? They usually come on the market around 9 to 10 months, so when are they planted? Let's take a look together.

Generally, sweet potato vines are used when planting sweet potatoes, with a planting length of about 5~7 leaves. When using sweet potato seed, cutting off a sprout point and burying it in the soil can only grow 1~2 sweet potatoes, and growth is slower. When planting with sweet potato vines, roots grow from every leaf and each will produce a sweet potato, and growth is faster. When planting sweet potatoes, dig furrows on the seedbed to make raised beds, which must have good drainage, then bury the 5~7-leaf sweet potato vine into the soil at 45 degrees, and water the soil thoroughly after planting (planting too straight will only grow one root; insert diagonally at 45 degrees and every leaf will grow roots). Keep watering for about 1 week; when the sweet potato leaves stand up and grow new shoots, they have survived. About one month after planting, fertilize and lift the vines and swap them left and right (called "nong teng" in Taiwanese); vine lifting must be done once every week. Harvesting begins 3 months after planting. In summer, water once every week to prevent the soil from being too dry and preventing the sweet potatoes from growing large. When planting in summer, pay attention to the harm caused by sweet potato weevils; planting in autumn has fewer pests, summer planting gives a larger harvest, and sweet potatoes grown in autumn and winter are fewer. Sweet potatoes grow best in full sun; the leaves grow lush, and the more time spent on photosynthesis, the better the sweet potatoes grow.

The fastest way to sprout sweet potatoes: keep the temperature at a suitable level (15 to 25 degrees). Maintain a certain humidity indoors.

1. Temperature: Sweet potatoes like warmth and fear cold. At 20℃ they develop roots in 3 days; at 27~30℃ they can develop roots in just one day. When the air temperature is 25~28℃, stems and leaves grow quickly; above 30℃, stems and leaves grow even faster, but the tubers swell slowly.

2. Light: Sweet potatoes like light. Under sufficient light, the leaves are darker in color, the leaf age is longer, the stems and vines are thick and strong, the conductive tissue of the stems is well developed, and the yield is higher.

In which months does the south start planting sweet potatoes? The southern region has a two-year, four-crop system. Rotation: one season of spring sweet potatoes and one season of summer sweet potatoes, with other crops grown at other times.
