How to raise Eucommia ulmoides seedlings in summer? Please introduce the methods
For summer Eucommia ulmoides, the following methods can be used for seedling raising:
For air layering propagation, every year in June to July, on superior plants, select robust 2-3 year old branches about 1 cm in diameter as the layering branches, choose a spot about 15 cm from the point where the layering branch grows as the layering position, and use a knife to peel off a ring of bark at the layering position, with a width of about 6 cm. You can also use a small stick to tap the bark at that spot; the tapping intensity should be such that the bark is crushed but does not fall off. After exposing it for 3-4 days, use plastic (11480,40.00,0.35%) film to wrap 2-3 turns around the layering position, forming a cylinder. The cylinder should be 25 cm long and 10 cm in diameter. Then, at 5 cm below the layering position, tie the plastic film cylinder tightly with rope, fill the plastic film with culture soil, and make the layering branch sit in the middle of the plastic film cylinder. After filling it, tie the film cylinder tightly at the upper end of the layering position with rope so that it forms a ball shape. After that, inject clean water into the culture soil once a week with a large syringe to keep the nutrient soil moist. After about 30 days, the wound on the layering branch will heal and new roots will grow; after about 60 days, cut the branch off from the mother tree, remove the plastic film, and it can be transplanted.
To make nutrient soil, use humus soil plus 20% decomposed human feces and urine. For softwood cuttings from June to August, select robust branches of the current year, cut them into small sections with 3 lateral buds, and soak them in a solution containing 50 mg of ABT No. 2 rooting powder per kilogram for 1-2 hours. Note that the terminal bud leaves on each small section should be retained. Use a wooden cone to make holes in the seedbed, insert the branches into the seedbed, and it is best if the upper end of the branch is level with the bed surface, with the upper leaves allowed to be exposed, then build a shade shed above the seedbed. Before the root system forms, within about one month, spray water once in the morning and once in the evening every day. After the root system forms, gradually reduce the frequency of spraying, as long as the bed surface remains moist. The best time for softwood cuttings is in the morning; cuttings taken at this time have a high survival rate and also grow quickly.
