The main pests and diseases of the medicinal herb Eucommia ulmoides are damping-off, root rot, leaf blight, leopard moth, and so on. For damping-off control, when preparing the land, spread ferrous sulfate powder at 105-150 kg/hm2 or spray 40% formaldehyde solution at 45 kg/hm2, then cover with grass to disinfect the soil; when sowing, mix 50% carbendazim at 37.5 kg/hm2 with fine soil and spread it on the seedbed or in the sowing furrow; in the early stage of the disease, irrigate with a 1,000-fold dilution of 50% carbendazim. In cultivated land with a high water table or poor drainage, Eucommia ulmoides is prone to root rot, and the whole plant dies, so drainage should be strengthened; at the same time, dig out the diseased trees and burn them, and disinfect the tree holes with 50% formalin. Leaf blight harms the leaves, and in severe cases the leaves wither and die, so the nursery should be cleaned, and during the growing season spray a 1:1:100 Bordeaux mixture for control. For leopard moth control, clean the field in winter; in early June, before the adults lay eggs, brush the tree trunks with whitewash, and during the larval hatching period spray the trunks with a 400-800-fold dilution of 40% dimethoate emulsion.
