Common pests and diseases of mint include rust, leaf spot, cutworm, silver Y moth, and tobacco cutworm.
Agricultural control
Choose disease-resistant and disease-tolerant varieties, and in particular implement measures such as rational crop rotation. In pest and disease control, pay attention to early detection and early control, and eliminate pests and diseases at the stage when they occur only in spots and patches.
Chemical control
Rust: Pay attention to good drainage, reduce field humidity, promptly pull up and burn diseased plants when found, and spray with 1:1:200 Bordeaux mixture. Spraying should stop 7d before harvest.
Leaf spot: Spray with 65% mancozeb wettable powder at 500x to 600x dilution (80% mancozeb wettable powder at 800x dilution) or 1:1:200 Bordeaux mixture. Spraying should stop 20d before harvest.
Cutworm: Cutworms can be caught by hand in the morning. Use 1kg of 90% crystalline trichlorfon, mix with 50kg of chopped young seedlings and succulent fresh tender leaves, or mix with 50 kg of roasted rapeseed cake or cottonseed cake to make bait. Use 2kg to 3kg per mu of field, and scatter it in the field in the evening to trap and kill them.
Silver Y moth and tobacco cutworm: Silver Y moth and tobacco cutworm can be killed by spraying with 90% crystalline trichlorfon at 1000x dilution.
