How do you propagate honeysuckle? What propagation methods are there for honeysuckle? Friends, please help us share thisThe main propagation methods for honeysuckle are seed propagation, cutting propagation and layering propagation. The three methods are described in detail below for your reference.
Propagation method one, seed propagation:
Between August and October, collect fully ripe fruit from vigorous, pest- and disease-free plants or branches. After collecting, rub and wash the fruit, rinse away the skin and flesh with water, dry in the shade and remove impurities, then stratify the clean seeds obtained at 0-5°C until sowing in March to April of the following year.
Before sowing, first soak the seeds in warm water at 25-35°C for 24 hours, then mix them with wet sand at room temperature to force sprouting. When 30-40% of the seeds have cracked open, they can be sown. For sowing in a seedbed, 1.00 gram per square meter is suitable.
Propagation method two, cutting propagation:
The cutting method can effectively propagate honeysuckle. Cuttings can be taken in spring, summer and autumn, and the survival rate is highest when cuttings are taken during the rainy season.
When taking cuttings, use vigorous one-year-old branches (or branches after flowering) as cuttings. Each cutting should retain 3-4 pairs of buds (or leaves); remove the lower leaves and insert the cutting into the seedbed. NAA can also be used as a rooting agent to promote rooting of the cuttings.
After cutting, take care to spray water frequently; roots will form 2-3 weeks after cutting. Spring cuttings can be transplanted in autumn of the same year, while summer and autumn cuttings can be transplanted in spring of the following year.
Propagation method three, layering propagation:
Between June and October, use nutrient-rich wet mud as a base, take current-year branches after flowering, and layer them with the above-mentioned fertile mud over 2-3 nodes, covering with some grass to retain moisture. After 2-3 months, adventitious roots will grow at the nodes. Then cut the branch 1 cm behind the node where the adventitious roots have formed, so that it separates from the mother plant and grows independently, and transplant it elsewhere shortly afterwards.
