What is honeysuckle powdery mildew? What harm does powdery mildew do to honeysuckle? We ask fellow growers to help explainThe harm powdery mildew does to honeysuckle:
Powdery mildew mainly damages the leaves, and sometimes also the stems and flowers. The spots on the leaves start as small white dots, then expand into white powdery patches, and in the later stage the entire leaf is covered with a powdery layer; in severe cases the leaves turn yellow, become deformed, and even drop off. The upper part of the stem shows brown, irregular spots covered with white powder; the flowers become twisted and in severe cases drop off.
Powdery mildew can occur in all parts of the country, so it needs to be prevented and controlled in advance.
Causes of honeysuckle powdery mildew:
The pathogen overwinters as ascocarps on diseased plant debris; the following year the ascocarps release ascospores for primary infection, and after the disease appears the diseased parts produce conidia for secondary infection. It is prone to occur in warm, dry conditions or where plants are shaded by each other. Excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer and alternating dry and wet conditions make the disease more severe.
Treatment methods for honeysuckle powdery mildew:
Select disease-resistant varieties, pay attention to pruning, and increase ventilation and light penetration. In the early stage of the disease, spray 100 grams of 50% colloidal sulfur mixed with 20 kg of water, or a 2000-fold dilution of 15% triadimefon wettable powder.
A commonly used pesticide for controlling powdery mildew is 15% triadimefon wettable powder.
