What methods are there to promote ripening in summer corn? Please explain

The following methods can be used to promote ripening in summer corn:

  1. Husking and sun-drying the ears method:
When the kernels begin to harden in the mid-dough stage of corn, gently peel open the husks one by one so that all the kernels are exposed and can be directly exposed to sunlight. Generally, after peeling and drying for 15-20 days, the moisture content of the kernels can be reduced by 14%-18%, and they can mature 5-7 days earlier. However, note that varieties that mature while still standing should not be peeled.

  2. Removing diseased, old and residual leaves method:
In the late growth stage of corn, most of the middle and lower leaves age and die. Removing them in time can not only increase field ventilation and light penetration, reduce nutrient consumption, and lessen disease infection, but also accelerate kernel maturity and increase yield.

  3. Removing ineffective ears and ineffective plants:
For single-ear corn varieties, keep only the first ear on the upper part and remove the ineffective ears below. Promptly pull out ineffective plants such as empty stalks and diseased or weak plants in the corn field.

4. Cutting off the top shoots in batches method:
According to the maturity level of the corn in the field, cut off the shoot leaves above the ears that have entered the dough stage in batches. This method has a certain impact on yield; the earlier the cutting, the greater the yield reduction. Therefore, the top shoots must not be cut earlier than the early dough stage, and two large leaves should be left above the ear to facilitate photosynthesis and supply the nutrients needed by the plant.
