Reasons for applying calcium fertilizer to peanuts:
Peanuts are a calcium-loving crop (according to measurements, for every 100 kg of peanut pods produced, 2.7 kg of calcium must be absorbed), and calcium nutrition is needed starting from seed germination; calcium can strengthen nitrogen metabolism in the plant and promote the development of the root system and root nodules. When peanuts are deficient in calcium, the root system is thin and weak, the young stems and leaves turn yellow, spots appear on the underside of the leaves, the seed embryo turns black, pod development declines, and the number of empty, shriveled pods and single-seed pods increases.

Methods for applying calcium fertilizer to peanuts:
The calcium fertilizer currently used in production is mainly gypsum (that is, calcium sulfate). It can be applied as a base fertilizer at 50-100 kg per mu; it can also be used as a topdressing by opening furrows in the fruiting zone at the early flowering stage of peanuts, with an application rate of 20-30 kg per mu.

After gypsum is applied to peanuts in saline-alkali soil, it can also regulate soil pH and reduce the harm to the root system from excessive sodium salts in the soil. According to comparative tests in various places, peanuts treated with calcium fertilizer generally increase yield by 5%-20%, and in the highest cases by more than 30%.
