The main pests and diseases of mint are rust, leaf spot and the black cutworm. For detailed control methods, refer to the following:

  1. Control methods and damage of mint rust:The pathogen is a basidiomycete fungus, damaging leaves and stems. From May to June, when there is continuous rain or excessive drought, the disease occurs easily. At first, orange-yellow, powdery urediniospore pustules appear on the underside of the leaves, and later dark brown, powdery teliospore pustules develop. When the disease is severe, the leaves wither and drop, and the whole plant may die. Control method: spray with a 300-fold dilution of disodium edetate or 1:1:200 Bordeaux mixture. Stop spraying 20 days before harvest.

2. Control methods and damage of mint leaf spot:Also called white star disease, the pathogen is a deuteromycete fungus, damaging the leaves. It occurs from May to October. The leaf spots are small and round, dark green, and later gradually enlarge and turn dull brown, with a grayish-white center in the shape of a white star, on which small black dots form; the leaves gradually wither and drop. Control methods: 1) Remove diseased leaves promptly and burn them; 2) In the early stage of the disease, spray with 1:1:200 Bordeaux mixture or a 500-fold dilution of 65% zineb wettable powder. Stop spraying within 20 days before harvest.

3. Control methods and damage of the black cutworm:It belongs to the family Noctuidae, order Lepidoptera, and damages leaves and flower buds. The larvae chew the leaves, creating holes. Control method: use a 800-fold dilution of 90% trichlorfon original powder. Stop applying the pesticide within 20 days before harvest.
