What diseases affect spinach cultivation? What harm do these diseases cause? We ask knowledgeable readers to help adviseThe diseases that occur during spinach cultivation include damping-off, heart rot, downy mildew, and viral disease. Zhongdiwang has compiled the harm and control methods of the above diseases for spinach, listed in detail below for readers' reference.
Harm of spinach damping-off:It generally occurs more often at the spinach seedling stage. The disease appears once the spinach leaves unfold. The base of the spinach seedling stem becomes light brown and water-soaked, followed by basal rot, and the spinach seedling collapses before it has wilted. When humidity is high, a layer of white cottony mycelium grows on the diseased area, and it spreads rapidly under low temperature and high humidity.
Control methods for spinach damping-off:Spray with 58% metalaxyl-mancozeb wettable powder at 800 times dilution, or 72.2% propamocarb aqueous solution at 400 times dilution.
Harm of spinach heart rot:Heart rot mainly harms the base of the spinach stem. Leaves, stems, and roots can all be affected. Seeds carrying the pathogen infect spinach after germination before it emerges. Some emerged seedlings have rotting heart leaves, and some have brown, constricted stem bases, causing damping-off and resulting in missing plants and broken rows.
Control methods for spinach heart rot: At the early stage of disease, spray with 36% thiophanate-methyl suspension concentrate at 500 times dilution, or 72.2% propamocarb aqueous solution at 400 times dilution.
Harm of spinach downy mildew:Downy mildew mainly harms spinach leaves. The lesions start as small pale yellow spots with indistinct edges, and gradually a grayish-white mold layer develops on the lesions on the underside of the leaves, later turning grayish-purple, while the upper side of the leaves shows yellow spots. The lesions spread from the lower part of the plant upward. It mainly spreads through airflow, rain, farm tools, insects, and farming operations. The disease is severe under low-temperature and high-humidity conditions with a temperature of 10°C and relative humidity of 85%.
Control methods for spinach downy mildew:At the early stage of disease in spinach, spray with 58% metalaxyl-mancozeb wettable powder at 500 times dilution, or 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder at 600 times dilution, or 75% DuPont Curzate wettable powder at 800 times dilution.
Harm of spinach viral disease:Viral disease is a major disease of spinach. After the onset of viral disease, the leaves become wrinkled and uneven, the leaf shape becomes small, some heart leaves are distorted, and new leaves turn yellow. Aphids and planthoppers are the main pathways for the spread of viral disease.
Control methods for spinach viral disease:1. Control aphids promptly to reduce transmission vectors. 2. At the early stage of disease in spinach, spray with 1.5% zhibingling emulsion at 1000 times dilution, or 20% virus A wettable powder at 500 times dilution.
