After crops are planted, topdressing needs to be carried out for different stages, and onion cultivation is no exception. Therefore, Zhongdiwang has compiled the topdressing methods for the three stages of onion cultivation, listed in detail below for netizens' reference.

  1. Topdressing during the onion seedling recovery stage:
15-20 days after onion transplanting, apply seedling recovery fertilizer to supplement nutrients for continued root growth and to prepare for the upcoming growth of the aboveground part. Apply 5-6 kg of urea per mu, broadcast it, then water to promote absorption and utilization.

  2. Topdressing during the onion vigorous growth stage:
Generally 30 days after onion transplanting, when vegetative growth strengthens, vigorous growth fertilizer should be applied to ensure the needs of functional leaf growth in the aboveground part. This is because the size of the leaf vegetative mass is very closely related to the later size of the bulb; promoting leaf growth in the early stage lays the foundation for the later bulb enlargement growth. It is mostly nitrogen-based, applying 5-6 kg of urea and 5 kg of potassium sulfate per mu.

  3. Topdressing during the onion bulb-swelling promotion stage:
After the onion plant has 8-10 tubular leaves, the bulb begins to expand, and bulb-swelling promotion fertilizer should be applied once. This fertilizer should focus on the middle stage of bulb expansion growth. When the bulb just begins enlargement growth, excessive nitrogen fertilizer should not be applied. If nitrogen fertilizer is applied excessively in the late stage of bulb expansion growth, "delayed maturity" may occur and affect harvest.
Apply 5-7 kg of urea and 8 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. During the bulb expansion growth period, potassium deficiency will not only reduce yield, but also have a certain impact on the storage tolerance of the product.
