What is cowpea blight? How do you prevent and control cowpea blight? We ask experienced gardeners to share their advice.Cowpea, also known as yardlong bean, is a vegetable abundant in summer. Cowpea is rich in vitamins B and C and plant protein, which can calm the mind, regulate the digestive system, and relieve chest and diaphragm distension. But growing cowpea is often harmed by blight, so Zhongdi Network has compiled the damage caused by cowpea blight and its prevention and control methods, listed in detail below for gardeners' reference.
Damage caused by cowpea blight:
Blight mainly harms the stems, leaves and pods of cowpea, generally occurring at or near the stem nodes, especially near the ground. The affected area is initially water-soaked, then becomes wet-rotted and constricted around the stem, and the leaves and vines above the affected area wither and die.
When humidity is high, the cortex of the cowpea rots and white mold appears on the surface. Infected cowpea leaves initially show dark green water-soaked spots, which then expand into round light brown spots with white mold on the surface. The affected parts of the pods also develop white mold and rot. This results in reduced cowpea yield and poor quality.
Prevention and control methods for cowpea blight:
Spray promptly to protect the plants at the early stage of cowpea blight. You can use 58% Ridomil MZ soluble powder at 500 to 800 times dilution, or 64% Sandofan wettable powder at 500 times dilution, or 72.2% Previcur water agent at 800 times dilution. Spray once every 7 to 10 days, for 2 to 3 consecutive times, for better results.
