The nutrients lotus root needs during growth and development come partly from photosynthesis in the lotus leaves and partly from the soil, while the soil's original fertilizer is limited (including base fertilizer) and will become less and less as the plant grows and develops, so timely topdressing is essential. Zhongdi Network has compiled the three topdressing times during the lotus root growing period and the precautions for fertilizing lotus root, listed in detail below for gardeners' reference.

The first is carried out when standing leaves begin to appear; after cultivating and weeding, apply 750-1000 kg of human manure and urine fertilizer per mu.

The second topdressing is carried out when there are already 5-6 standing leaves, applying about 1000 kg of human manure and urine fertilizer per mu.

The third topdressing is carried out when the terminal leaf appears; at this time lotus root formation begins, and it is called lotus root topdressing. Apply 1500 kg of human manure and urine fertilizer and 30-50 kg of cake fertilizer per mu.

       Precautions for fertilizing lotus root:
1. Fertilizing lotus root should be done on clear, windless days, and avoid doing it at noon under strong sunlight.
       2. Before each fertilization of lotus root, drain the field water so the fertilizer can be absorbed into the water, then irrigate again to the original depth.
       3. In deep-water lotus root fields, fertilizer is easily lost, so liquid fertilizer cannot be applied directly; solid fertilizer application methods should be used. That is, apply heavy stable manure and bury it in the mud.
       4. When using chemical fertilizer for topdressing lotus root, first mix the chemical fertilizer thoroughly with river mud, make it into fertilizer mud balls, and then apply them into the lotus root field.
