Black Dragon Pool azaleas generally refer to the azalea displays cultivated and showcased in Black Dragon Pool Park in Kunming, Yunnan. The park is located in the northern suburbs of Kunming, with lush ancient trees and clear springs, and has long been famous for its flower events, among which azaleas are one of the flowers that best capture the spring atmosphere. Whenever the flowering season arrives, the park is filled with clusters of blooms and swathes of color, attracting many residents and visitors to come and admire them.

The azalea varieties collected in the park are fairly rich, including common Yunnan species such as the red azalea (Rhododendron simsii) and the maize azalea (Rhododendron delavayi), as well as artificially bred horticultural varieties such as Western azaleas. The flower colors cover many tones including red, pink, white and purple, and the plants vary in height, with flowering periods following one after another, so continuous stretches of bloom can be seen throughout the spring.

Besides their ornamental value, the Black Dragon Pool azaleas also serve the functions of variety display and flower science popularization, introducing the classification, habits and care knowledge of azaleas to the public through flower shows. Azaleas prefer a cool, humid, semi-shaded environment and are suited to loose, acidic soil, and Kunming's climate conditions match this well, so the plants in the park generally grow well and bloom profusely.

When caring for azaleas at home, people often encounter problems such as leaf drop, spots on leaves, failure to bloom or the whole plant dying, which are mostly related to improper watering, overly strong light, alkaline soil, poor ventilation or overly concentrated fertilizer. In daily management, it is advisable to use a loose, breathable acidic potting soil, place the plant where there is plenty of scattered light, keep the potting soil moist but not waterlogged, apply light fertilizer frequently during the growing season, supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizer appropriately before flowering, and promptly cut off spent flowers after flowering, which helps the plant maintain its growth and bloom more year after year.
