Raising pigeons refers to the farming activity of building a coop, providing feed, and carrying out daily management so that pigeons grow and reproduce normally and produce economic or ornamental value. Pigeons are highly adaptable and gentle in temperament; they can be raised for meat and racing as well as for ornamental and breeding purposes, making them a fairly common project in both family farming and large-scale farming.

Before farming, a pigeon coop must be built first. The site should preferably be a higher, well-ventilated, sunny, dry, and quiet location, with perches, laying nests, and activity areas set up inside. The coop needs regular cleaning and disinfection, and at the same time precautions must be taken against predators such as cats, rats, and snakes entering, so as to give the pigeons a stable and safe roosting environment.

In terms of feeding, pigeons mainly eat grains and legumes such as corn, wheat, peas, and sorghum. The mixing ratio can be adjusted according to different growth stages, and health grit can be supplemented to aid digestion. Drinking water must be clean and sufficient and changed every day, and feed troughs and water troughs should be cleaned frequently to prevent the feed from becoming damp and moldy and causing disease.

In daily management, observe the pigeons' mental state, droppings, and feeding conditions more often, and isolate and handle any abnormalities promptly. After breeding pigeons pair up, they will lay eggs, incubate, and feed their squabs on their own; during this period, disturbances should be reduced and the nest kept quiet. Carrying out vaccination and deworming as required can effectively reduce the probability of disease.

The investment in raising pigeons is relatively flexible. Market demand for meat pigeons and squabs is stable, while for racing pigeons and ornamental pigeons, breed and training level matter more. Beginners can start on a small scale, gradually master pairing and breeding, feed mixing, and squab-rearing management, and then steadily expand the farming scale based on actual sales channels.
