Leech Pictures and an Introduction to the Appearance Characteristics of Common Species
Leech pictures usually show the live form of annelids of the leech kind. The body surface of a leech is mostly blackish brown or brown, the body is flat and soft, with one sucker at the front and one at the back, and it stretches and contracts in a wavelike motion when crawling; these features are relatively easy to identify in pictures.
Judging from common pictures, leeches can be divided into several types such as the wide-body golden leech and the medicinal leech, and different species differ slightly in body length, body color and ring markings. Wild individuals mostly live in freshwater areas such as rice paddies, ponds and ditches, often attaching near aquatic plants or stones, so the pictures taken mostly show them in an attached or curled state.
In farming settings, leech pictures are often used as a reference for identification and prevention. For example, if leeches get into a ricefield eel breeding pond, they may attach to the eel bodies and suck blood, affecting the fish's health, and farmers often use pictures to identify their form so they can clean them up in time and reduce losses.
In addition, leeches also have certain application value; some species can serve as the source of the Chinese medicinal material leech, and artificial breeding has been carried out in some areas. When viewing leech pictures, it is recommended to focus on the position of the suckers, the ring patterns of the body segments and the changes in body color, as these are the key points for distinguishing species and judging their activity state.
