StoneFrogThe scientific name is Quasipaa spinosa, also known as stone clam, stone chicken, mountain chicken, stone jelly, flying fish, stone scale, stone toad, stone shrimp toad, stone pit frog, stone luan, wood locust (southern Sichuan), etc. It is an animal of the class Amphibia, order Anura, family Ranidae.
The stone frog tadpole has an elongated body, a thick and plump tail, and a dark yellow skin color dotted with small black star-like spots. On the back where the body meets the tail, a black "V"-shaped pattern can be seen when viewed from above. The tadpole has a well-developed snout protuberance and a very strong ability to attach. The stone frog is large and robust. Adult frogs generally have a body length of 10-13 cm and a weight of 150-250 g or more, and large ones can reach over 500 g. The stone frog's skin is rough, and the skin on its back is dark gray, covered with many bumps. The stone frog's head is broad and flat, with a rounded snout tip that protrudes beyond the lower jaw. The distance between the two nostrils is almost equal to the distance between the two eyes. Among stone frogs of the same age, males are larger than females. After sexual maturity, the male frog's forelimbs become extremely robust, with spine-like fleshy spines on the chest, and the abdomen is pale yellow. The female has no spines on the chest, and the abdomen is smooth and white.
At present, because it has been subjected to large-scale hunting, the stone frog is one of the key protected wild animals in Jiangxi Province and Anhui Province.
In addition, the stone frog is also widely farmed for use as food.
